WASHINGTON, D.C. - U.S. Congressman Tom Cole (OK-4) released the following statement today after receiving the news that Former First Lady Lady Bird Johnson had passed away.

"Americans from both parties are sad today mourning the passing of former First Lady Lady Bird Johnson. Lady Bird was known for her dedicated love for the environment both here in Washington and in her home state of Texas. Because of her dedication to conserving the environment, she committed her time as First Lady to start the capital beautification project. She was also involved with her husband's war-on-poverty program, especially the Head Start program, which we Oklahomans feel so strongly about. I am grateful for the impression she left on our country, and I join my colleagues and fellow Americans in mourning the loss of such an amazing First Lady."
