Cole Announces American Heritage Bookshelf Grant to Glover-Spencer Memorial Library
WASHINGTON D.C. - U.S. Congressman Tom Cole (OK-4) announced today that the Glover-Spencer Memorial Library in Rush Springs has been chosen to receive an award of 17 classic books on the theme "Created Equal" from the National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH). The book collection is being donated as part of the We the People bookshelf program.
"Last August I visited the Glover-Spencer Memorial Library during a town hall meeting. I am proud to represent the community of Rush Springs and pleased to announce the award of the We the People bookshelf to their library. These books are an excellent resource for children and young adults to learn about our nation's history of working towards freedom and equality."
The NEH's We the People program grant provided these books to encourage the study and understanding of American culture and heritage. The "Created Equal" collection contains 17 classic books for children of all ages that tell the stories of influential Americans such as Abigail Adams and Abraham Lincoln. Other books are included to engage young readers and raise awareness about historic issues of liberty and equality.
The NEH is an independent federal agency that exists to support learning in history, literature, philosophy and other areas of humanities. NEH grants are available to supplement and enrich classroom learning and preserve knowledge at public institutions such as museums and libraries.
